Maddy Moon is a 24-year-old female with strong convictions about sharing her message with the world. As a high school student, Maddy was introduced to food documentaries which changed her way of eating. She adopted vegetarianism and rapidly dropped weight. And even though she didn’t need to lose the weight, people started praising her for her new look. She became obsessed with the attention she was getting and decided to work with a trainer to prepare her for a physique competition. She has since realized her value is more than how she looks and she wants to make sure women have the tools to become body positive. She has written two books and her website has become a resource for those who would like to learn from her experiences.

Key Takeaways:

[7:54] Maddy shares the beginning of her body obsession and how her eating habits were getting her noticed.

[13:55] Labels are more powerful than we think they are. They can make us a prisoner.

[17:55] If kids see the people love and admire most putting themselves down, it won’t matter what you say to them, they will pick up on the behavior.

[21:48] Maddy lost herself and her health while preparing for her first physique competition.

[31:46] There are people in the fitness industry who make women believe their only value is how they look.

[37:59] Purging her social media, reducing triggers, changing relationships and increasing her “body positivity” exposure led Maddy through her healing process.

[48:25] Contact information for Maddy and how to get her amazing books, Confessions of a Fitness Model and The Perfection Myth

As a former professional ice hockey player and wrestler, Paul Gagné has always had an interest in using the body’s natural systems to obtain peak performance. He currently trains high-level athletes using Posturology, Sports Physiology, and Strength Conditioning along with a Japanese style nutrition and diet regiment. He advises to only take supplements that activate the body’s natural systems, but only if you really need to.

Key Takeaways:

[5:24] What exactly is Posturology and what does it have to do with our feet?

[14:39] Eye muscles are an important part of posture. Hand, eye coordination can be stunted by the white light from screens and the proximity of electronic devices.

[20:18] How has Paul’s nutritional philosophy changed over the years due to changes in scientific information?

[28:44] What is the difference in the proper diet of a high-end athlete vs. the average Joe?

[35:08] We should wait for our bodies to tell us when we need food before eating. Most people eat before their bodies have finished processing food.

[38:09] A good supplement activates our body's natural energy system.

[40:59] Bone broth is made from organic bones and it is eaten to reduce inflammation.

[43:53] Protein powders and supplements are overused, wasteful products.

Aside from having amazingly cool stories, Mark Divine is a NY Times bestselling author, has a MBA in finance, created two of the most sought after workout routines and did yoga in Saddam Hussein's palace. His SEALFIT and Kokoro yoga workouts are designed for a gamut of fitness levels and encourage mental capacity as well as physical focus. He talks with Drew and Lynn about how he uses the 3 pillar rule to keep his clients’ body and mind in top shape. Look for his new book “Unbeatable Fuel” which will be out soon.

Key Takeaways:

[7:44] Mark was privileged to learn martial arts from an enlightened master who was a 10th degree black belt before he discovered yoga.

[17:27] Mark’s personal yoga practice includes box breathing, standing poses and high intensity exercises or fighting moves; then he finishes up with seated poses and visualizations.

[20:26] Mark’s personal mission is to dispel the idea of ‘yoga is a group sport’.

[23:56] SEALFIT started when Mark was training Navy SEALs, non-stop for 30-days. He wanted to develop their mental focus so he integrated yoga into the program.

[28:52] What is the difference between SEALFIT and Kokoro yoga?

[36:05] Mark recommends these programs for people of varying levels of fitness.

[37:50] A crucible is a significant challenge which gets you out of your comfort zone.

[52:54] The 3 pillars (breathing, hydration, and nutrition) are fueling rest, recovery (sleep) and integrated training.

[58:04] The Lightning Round.
